Behind the Collection
Mahjong has a way of taking over a table. Four people, one hundred and fifty-two tiles, three hours that disappear. It deserves better than what most of us play on.
Why we started
We kept running into the same problem. The beautiful mahjong was priced like an heirloom — four figures for a set you'd be afraid to actually use. The affordable mahjong looked like a toy. There was very little in between, and almost nothing you'd want to leave out on the table between games.
Luxury Mahjong is our answer to that gap. The luxe look, without the luxe markup.
How a piece earns its place
Every set is opened, counted, and inspected by hand before it ships. Tiles get checked for chips and colour consistency. Cases get checked for hardware that actually closes. If a set arrives to us short a tile or scuffed in a way we wouldn't accept ourselves, it doesn't go up for sale.
We name the pieces we put together — The Olive Pagoda, The Ivory Crown, The Sea Glass Pearl, The Marbled Tide — because naming something is a way of standing behind it. If it carries one of our names, we chose every part of it.
Small quantities, on purpose
Most of what we carry exists in ones and twos. That's partly how we keep prices where they are, and partly the point: we'd rather offer twelve things worth owning than four hundred things that all look alike.
It does mean that when something sells, it's often gone for good. If you're circling a set, don't circle too long.
The mats
Our mats started as a practical complaint. Tiles are loud, tables get scratched, and most mats on the market are either plain or garish. So we made the ones we wanted — 31.5" square, sized properly for racks and pushers, in microsuede, leatherette and neoprene depending on how you play. Several carry the full NMJL layout and Charleston order printed right into the design, which turns out to be the difference between teaching a new player and re-teaching them every hand.

Where we came from
We sold on eBay for two years before this storefront existed, and a good number of the reviews you'll see here were left by those customers. We kept them because they're real, and because a few of them describe the times something went wrong and we made it right — which tells you more than the ones that went perfectly.
